East Coast Beast Coast

So, a few weeks ago, I got to go back out to Boston for a job interview! It was great! And very very exhausting! Because, since I was already there, I decided I should go and look at two job offers that I had already gotten a little down south- one in Newark and one in NYC. So I took the red eye flight from SLC to Boston. Took public transit to the bus station (at like 6 am) and then got on a bus at 10 for Newark. I was VERY tired. But it was also very worth it. I'll let the pictures do most of the talking!

Ok, first of all, this was in Provo on my way home from class but these baby ducks are just SO CUTE.
I like to visit them on the daily.

That awkward 3 hour wait in Boston for the bus during the morning rush.
Not a bad view!

After the job school tour in Newark, I took the train into the city.
I didn't really have much of a plan and somehow just ended up at the 9/11 Memorial which was pretty cool.

It may look small, but with my laptop and all my stuff inside, this thing got a bit HEAVY to carry all around the subway.
But I'm proud of myself for packing light!

I found my way to Central Park

There was a children's party and I just thought that red balloon was so sweet

So romantic!

Can you believe that this is still Central Park?
This could be a picture of someone in Utah!

All the little boats were out

The beautiful, ubiquitous, exhausted, glasses, orange-jacket selfie I seem to take on every trip

The school in the Bronx that I visited for an on-site
(I could be working there in the fall!)

After the on-site I wanted to go to this flea market in Brooklyn but I got off at the wrong stop.
And that stop happened to be Grand Central.
So then I just went with it and wandered around downtown for awhile!

Public library!

They had a little exhibit about mothers (I guess for mother's day) and I think this quote is so beautiful

Not a 100% fail proof method because some kids just have somber dispositions, but overall I also love this quote as well

I LOVED that they were selling this at the store

Can you tell who they want to win the election?

This just really sums it all up

Ok, I'm sorry for sideways picture and I don't take the Lord's name in vain but the rest of the quote?
Priceless.

tehehe

The famous lion statues made out of legos!

The children's section was pretty rad
Even if the Winnie the Pooh display wasn't currently up

Made my way to Times Square

And happened to get a picture of one of the naked cowboys!
#blessed

Just for the memories- my hostel room my second night.
I could NOT sleep.
I mean for one thing this girl was playing her music without headphones. WHY?

I stayed in New York Sunday so I could do a little ward hoping.
The Manhattan temple doubles as a chapel and its gorgeous

Finally, I got back on the bus and made it home to Boston.
I didn't get to visit many people but I got to drop by the lovely Guinevere who I basically look up to in every way.

On Monday I had my interview at Match Corps in Boston.
After the interview I walked to the T and just headed into Harvard Square.
I was hungry so naturally I bought a luxury cupcake.

I'm smart enough to go to Harvard, see?
I went there!

Is it a teacher's lounge or a country club?
At Harvard the answer is 'yes.'

Walking around the Harvard bookstore I saw Clayton Christensen's book.
He was in the mission presidency of the MBM and I'm just so proud of that!

Stopped by the Longfellow house ...

...and discovered this secret public garden behind it!

It was so beautiful

I took a lot of selfies...

But mostly I sat on this bench and prayed about which job I should take.

Then I walked past the LP chapel which holds such a special place in my heart
since its where my parents met and where my parents were baptized.
And I spent a fair amount of time at the end of my mission there.

Uncle Frank and my cousin Yvonne met up with me for dinner which was really wonderful!

The next day, I surprised one of the people I taught (and who got baptized) at the end of my mission.
It was so fun to see him! Especially since he is a newly wed and married to someone from one of my old areas!
I love thinking that I had a small part in their love story since I (indirectly) helped connect them!

The amazing Steadman's who I was staying with drove me around, let me eat their food and were basically just the perfect Boston parents. They even stopped by the temple so we could walk around the grounds!

It felt great to be back!

They then sent me into the wild with my backpack!

I hiked around Boston for a bit before going back to the airport

I went to Quincy Market and found this gem

And took more selfies...

And saw this cool carousel that reminded me of my mom

And this beautiful buoyed marina

I got a stranger to take some pictures of me

And they were a little awkward

But basically, it was just good to be back in Boston!

There's so much more to the trip of course and it was a slightly confusing mix of emotions being back for the first time in this place that was both paradise and prison for 18 months. Mostly paradise of course. But there were bad days too. And I changed so much there. Mostly, I just want to live up to the person that Sister Hurst was. Because I'm truly proud of who I became as a missionary and maintaining that is hard!

Oh, and, its old news by now but after the trip, it wasn't too hard for me to make my decision. As much as I love Boston, I feel called down a different path...
I'm going to NEW YORK!
